About candidate

About you
Anthony Ramirez has been writing and editing for nearly 15 years. Highlights include three years at the LGBTQ+ “About Magazine," as editor-in-chief. As director of communications at Pride Houston, Inc., he wrote and edited the
organizations press content, digital media scripts, website copy, Pride Guide, and speeches. He is a four-time published author. His third novel, “Where He Lay Down,” was nominated for an award bu the American Library Association. He has worked as a ghostwriter both for private clients and publishing companies. Currently, he works
as a freelance writer, ghostwriter, and as a grant proposal writer.
What are you looking for in a new role?
I am interested in getting away from ghostwriting for private clients and into writing for a company with steady and consistent work. I am interested to expand my horizons by allowing me to try new things with my writing and by writing for a larger audience. I’m also interested to work in a more collaborative setting.
What you are interested in working with us?
I am very interested in working with you because your company doesn't seem like the others that I’ve worked for as a ghostwriter. Many of these companies were just content mills that wanted you to push out a book as quickly as possible, despite the quality or lack thereof. I also like that you all have a library of resources available to your writers and provide resources and tools for writers to improve their craft and make more of themselves professionally.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
The most challenging thing I have found myself dealing with in the past is balancing the creative aspect of being a freelance writer with managing and marketing myself as a freelance writer. When you embark on a career in freelance writing, no one tells you how difficult it can be to make contacts, to find work, and then to have that work coming in consistently so that you succeed. Half the job is in managing yourself, seeking out new work or new clients, and dealing with the “business” of being a writer. By the time that’s all said and done, you have less energy and focus to commit to the actual writing. Working for a company like yours would give me back the joy of being able to research and write without without having to worry about marketing and logistics and everything else.

With nearly 15 years of writing and editing experience, including my roles as editor-in-chief at About Magazine and director of communications at Pride Houston, Inc., I have honed my ability to capture diverse voices and translate complex ideas into engaging narratives.
