What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
One of the most challenging roles I encountered as a Vitreoretinal Surgeon was managing a complex case of a young diabetic patient with severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy complicated by vitreous hemorrhage and tractional retinal detachment. The patient’s poor glycemic control and fragile retinal tissue made the surgery technically demanding. I performed a pars plana vitrectomy, delicately peeling fibrovascular membranes without damaging the underlying retina, ensuring precise hemostasis. The situation was further complicated by postoperative inflammation and recurrent bleeding, requiring close follow-up and tailored treatment. This case tested not only my surgical skills but also my ability to communicate effectively with the patient and coordinate multidisciplinary care, ultimately leading to a successful visual outcome and a valuable learning experience.
