About candidate

About you
My name is Roisin and I am an integrative therapist that has extensive experience with young people. I use a range of techniques including, compassion focused therapy, creative therapy, mindfulness practises and trauma informed therapy. I understand the individuality of each person and work with each person differently.
I am calm and compassionate and value the importance of working with the mind and body interchangeably. I take the role seriously, and try and offer the client a safe space, with no judgement and at a pace with suits them.
I have worked with children and adults but particularly enjoy working with younger people, and understand the difficulty of growing up in such challenging times.
I have worked frequently online with clients, so understand how to go about this well.
I like to support individuals in finding their true selfs, and see compassion and kindness as the way to reach this.
Areas which I have experience in include: self harm, anxiety, depression, suicide, bullying, sexual abuse, adhd, eating disorders, autism, did, transgender, bereavement, family conflicts, substance misuse.
What are you looking for in a new role?
This position particularly stood out to me as I enjoy working with young people and as part of a team. I am currently working privately for myself, so I feel I would enjoy this more rather than individually. I can learn from others on the team and gain more skills, each time I have worked as a team I have gain vast insight, due to different perspectives and other employees with extensive experience.
I would like to make a different to young people and hope they can feel seen and heard, as often young people are not respected. Young people are our future, so I believe they need to be given the right nurture to thrive in society, and to make the world a better place.
What you are interested in working with us?
The position sounded suitable for my skillset. I was interested in the holistic approach as I feel this creates the best results for the client.
I enjoy to keep up to date with psychology research, so it would be wonderful to learn a lot from working with you and becoming a more experienced therapist.
I enjoy working with young people and feel I can help by using a range of approaches with them. Especially creating a safe space and offering tools to support their mental health.
I enjoy working with the families and offer support as this is the key to high psychological care.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
Whilst working in The Priory mental health hospital I experienced challenges throughout my time there. This particular difficulty really stood out to me.
The hospital lacked structure and could be quite chaotic at times, I would have to conduct therapy in the adolescent ward, as patients were not allowed to go into private rooms due to dangers outside the ward. I used the room allocated, but staff would not respect the sessions and suddenly open the door at any particular time, this did not allow safety for the client. I tried to overcome this by putting signs of the door, letting the staff know there was a session on. But unfortunately the hospital had a lot of temporary staff coming in at any time, and people did not read the signs, leading to a lack of control and safety during what was supposed to be a safe and calm space. I was able to improve this during my time there but it was a challenge which kept resurfacing.

I am an integrative psychotherapist that works with young people and adults. I

have a calm and compassionate approach and value the importance of building

a safe and trusting relationship with my client. I use a range of approaches

depending on what the client needs. I can work creatively or also offer talking

based psychotherapy. Sometimes words may not be present, and art making or

writing can allow the individual to express difficulties in a non invasive way. I

respect each individuals uniqueness, and offer warmth and compassion to

support them through their journey.

From working in therapy for a number of years I understand that true healing

works with the mind and the body, bodily sensations can create negative

thoughts patterns and emotions in the mind, so I try and help the client tune

into whats happening in their body using mindfulness and trauma informed

techniques. This can be done through art or talking.

I have worked in various settings including a mental health hospital (Priory

Roehampton), numerous schools including secondary primary and infant level;

and I have set up my own private practise. I have also worked online as I have

had many clients who have not able to have face to face sessions.

I work well in a team and individually, I respect my working hours and deeply

care about people and supporting them through their healing journey.

I feel I could make a difference to a young persons life.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards,
