About candidate

About you
I am a recently graduated law student looking for some more experience in the field of research, particularly legal research. In my masters I specialised in the law and technology, with my thesis exploring international training requirements in relation to automated shipping developments. This thesis was undertaken entirely remotely and self-directed, which required incredibly thorough research and analysis in a niche area of the law. This further required a consistent understanding of technology developments, in relation to the law and more generally.
What are you looking for in a new role?
Particularly appealing to me is a role that centralises legal research undertaken to support further work and analysis. I thoroughly enjoyed my degrees and would deeply value the opportunity to continue learning and analysing further aspects of the law and its developments. This supporting the work of others in all mediums is especially appealing, in allowing the practical side of research to be realised and appreciated.
What you are interested in working with us?
I am excited about the opportunity to work with your organization because of your commitment to delivering high-quality legal research and analysis in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The prospect of contributing to a team that values precision, adaptability, and staying at the forefront of legal trends resonates with my professional aspirations. I value the focus your organisation places on professional development and staying current with legal trends. This was an especially central part of my further education, with my specialty being particularly in the law and technology.

I am particularly drawn to this role's emphasis on conducting comprehensive legal research and providing actionable insights that directly impact case strategies and client outcomes. The chance to utilise my expertise with advanced legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis while collaborating in a flexible, fully remote environment aligns perfectly with my skills and career goals.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
Working for a pro bono company as an outreach assistant required was an entirely remote role. Initially, this was a shift in how I was used to working, and required a concentrated effort to develop and maintain strong professional relationships. However, it swiftly became my preferred method of working, with the remote setting allowing for my own strengths and boundaries to be well-realised.

Cover latter

I am excited to apply for the Remote Legal Research Specialist position. My further education has greatly strengthened my experience in legal research and analysis. This, coupled with a strong ability and drive to thrive in remote work environments, I am confident in my ability to contribute significantly to your dynamic legal team.

Following on from my LLB in Law, I completed my LLM in Commercial Law, both at the University of Exeter. This greatly strengthened my independent research and analytical skills, with my final thesis being entirely self-directed and resulting in a strong grade of 78. This thesis looked at international training requirements in relation to shipping, and their potential application to automated shipping. I genuinely thoroughly enjoyed and valued my education and all the skills that it has allowed me to develop, and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to utilise them in a professional setting.

Both my LLB and LLM required utilizing platforms like Westlaw, LexisNexis and iLaw to the best of what they have to offer. My ability to analyze intricate legal issues and present findings in a clear, concise manner has been central in completing all of my work within my higher education. In every piece of work I would examine the reliability of each source and author to maintain a high standard of work and integrity.

What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking legal team that values precision and adaptability. I am eager to bring my expertise and passion to support your mission, and the wider mission of the team and clients, to deliver high-quality legal research and analysis.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my skills and experiences align with your needs and the present role. I am available at your earliest convenience for an interview and can be reached at lydiarbb@icloud.com.

Warm regards,
Lydia Blandford-Baker
