About candidate

About you
I am a 45 year-old Oregon native. In 2004 I completed a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in English Education at Brigham Young University-Idaho, and because I speak fluent Spanish, I was able to test-out of many Spanish courses, thus earning a Minor in Spanish Education. In 2009, I completed a Master’s of Science Degree in Education where my emphasis was Curriculum and Instruction; my Thesis Project focused on student motivation. I've been working for 19 years in public education.
What are you looking for in a new role?
I seek growth potential, competent leadership, and clarity in my mission. Simply put, I seek a career change, and over the past 19 years, I've realized that teaching/presenting is a great strength of mine. I read and understand people very well; I connect with people easily.

I would quickly prove to be an honest, capable, teachable employee with a strong work-ethic. I’ll train as fast as anyone you’ve ever hired. I follow directions well and support my supervisors. I encourage you to check my references and to speak with those who know me. Again, thank you, for taking the time to read, and I hope to speak with you again soon.
What you are interested in working with us?
The potential for growth in my career is something I've never had; in public education there is very little growth, if any, and hard work is not rewarded beyond one's own intrinsic satisfaction. Often, the best teachers are paid the least. Further, I would enjoy the opportunity to work with adults more than I currently do.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
Dealing with less-than-competent administrators is a huge challenge in public education. Typically in public education, unsuccessful classroom teachers move into administration in order to escape the classroom. The result has become a public education system where those at the ship's helm have no idea how to sail.

During my career I’ve prepared and delivered more lessons than can be numbered, I've  worked with countless teenagers, their parents, school administrators, and I've mastered the art of giving a presentation. I love analysis, choosing the perfect word in an essay, and I enjoy presenting to a group. I successfully adapt to new teams and know how to work with difficult individuals.

My career in teaching has not been confined to the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom, however. My resume includes two years working for Baker Web Academy, an online charter school that requires extensive knowledge and use of media and technology; you’ll see my experience as an Adjunct Professor and Student Teacher Supervisor in the Department of Education at EOU; you’ll see that since 2009 I’ve worked as an ODE Writing Coach and Trainer and that I’ve led Professional Learning Communities; you’ll see that I’m fluent in Spanish and have worked as a Translator, among other things.

I feel that both my formal education as well as my experience would make me a valuable employee--a worthwhile investment.  My communication skills in both English and Spanish are very strong. I write, organize, create, solve problems, and work with people very well. I can write curricula and design classes, effectively teach, and assess student learning.
