About candidate
About you
I graduated from Lumberton High School in Lumberton, NC. From there, I went to Wake Forest University and graduated with a B.A., History. I started working in the public school system as a teacher in 1984 in Robeson County, NC. In 1988, I started working for Robeson Community College, and while there, I had several positions, the last being VP for Instruction and Student Support Services (14 years as VP). I left to take a President's position at Rockingham Community College in 2015, and I am currently serving in that role. I plan to retire effective March 1, 2025. I have a Masters in Administration and Supervision from UNC-Pembroke (1989) in Pembroke, NC and and Ed.D in Adult and Community College Education from NC State University (1998) in Raleigh, NC.
What are you looking for in a new role?
Although I am retiring in March 2025, I want to continue to work either part-time or full-time depending on the position. I would like to have a position that allows some flexibility, and this remote option is a good fit for me. I checked the box for 24 hours, which is good for me, but I am open to working full-time depending on the requirements.
What you are interested in working with us?
I am interested in the Remote Grant Reviewer position, whether part-time or full-time. I have a lot of experience managing grants throughout my career in higher education. I have managed multiple grants in my career, including two federal (US Department of Education) institutional effectiveness grants, a Title III federal (US Department of Education) technology grant, a Title III (US Department of Education )Distance Learning Grant, and a Title III (US Department of Education) Grant focused on students pursuing healthcare as a career, and I served as a Principal Investigator for a Title III federal (US Department of Education) grant to address workforce issues. I have and currently supervise a TRiO grant from the US Department of Education. In addition, I have managed and have supervised a variety of private grants that the two colleges I have worked for applied for and partnered with other entities. I believe I can bring my grant experiences to the Grant Reviewer Position, along with my oral and written communication skills to analyze grants for compliance with specified criteria and to be part of a team in the review process to make sure grants we are reviewing match requirements for funding.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
When I became President at Rockingham Community College, our college was in dire need of transforming our campus to improve the teaching and learning environment, and this includes facilities and technology in the classrooms and labs. We have been able, through a variety of funding sources to greatly enhance the technology on our campus. This includes the technology in the classroom, upgrading labs, and in some cases, totally renovating buildings and building a new Center for Workforce Development. This work has taken ten years to bring the college up to where it needs to be to serve students at a collegiate level and prepare them for transfer or to enter the workforce.
