About candidate

About you
I am a career transformation coach, self-advocacy expert, an inspirational speaker, adjunct professor, and woman on a mission. I started my journey after graduating from Harvard Law School by going to a job on Wall Street and quickly rejecting that professional life for a more wholehearted one. I left my job and health insurance as a Wall Street attorney and never looked back. I first went to volunteer.

While living in a tent and building schools and water filters in Haiti, I reconnected to my values, and I returned to become a career coach and adjunct professor at a top 25 law school. There, I coached individual law students and created coursework to help students identify their professional strengths, interests, and values and taught the invaluable tools of self-advocacy. My course was made mandatory for first-year students. I next had the privilege of working with with purpose driven students at Candler School of Theology, and finally I worked to integrate these principles into coursework at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering for their masters populations. I am now writing my book The Five Principles of Effective Self-Advocacy, which will be available in Summer 2025, and I hope to continue coaching all over the world.
What are you looking for in a new role?
I am leaving my full-time role to focus on writing my book, my one-year-old son, and accomplishing other professional goals. I am excited to find a part-time career coaching position that is more flexible and allows me to do what I love the most, which is working directly with clients and professionals.
What you are interested in working with us?
I align with the vision and mission of the organization, and I am excited about what Naukri Mitra is doing. Additionally, I believe I meet the needs and could meaningfully contribute to the organization. I believe it meets my needs as well. I would like a part-time opportunity that supports my other work and provides some additional income. Additionally, I am very excited about collaborating with other top professionals in the career coaching space. I am excited for the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach, and it seems like a great fit.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
I have often struggled with boundaries, especially as a leader. However, I have found that I am more capable and clients are better served when I develop and communicate clear boundaries. I now start each relationship by clarifying expectations and boundaries, and I find that clients not only appreciate the clarity, they take it as an example for setting their own.

Cover latter

I am writing to introduce myself and to submit my materials for the Career Transition Coach role with Naukri Mitra. I am a seasoned career coach and woman on a mission, and I was legitimately excited to see this position available. Many years ago, I left my coveted job as a Wall Street attorney and started on my own journey to leverage my potential in a way that aligned more closely with my values. I have since spent the last twelve years at Emory University, Duke University, and in the private sector learning more and teaching others to do the same. I am currently transitioning out of my role leading a large team at Duke University as the Director of Career Services and Professional Development for the School of Engineering's Master's programs. I am looking to transition to a role that is just as meaningful but part-time and one that allows me to write and do the work I love the most - coaching people directly. I am also deeply excited by the mission and structure of Naukri Mitra, and I would be grateful to learn more about the role, your needs, and how I could contribute. If you have time, I would welcome a conversation and perhaps an interview to see if I am indeed a good fit as I expect.

Thank you so much for your time. I hope you are well, and I look forward to hearing from you! I can be reached at 470-345-5122 or sarah@sarahdcarlson.com.

Sincerely,

Sarah Carlson
