Dear Hiring Committee,
I am writing to express my enthusiastic interest in the Virtual Public Policy Research Analyst position. With more than a decade of experience conducting cross-sector policy research, managing public health initiatives, and translating data into actionable strategies, I bring both the analytical rigor and collaborative spirit necessary for this dynamic remote role.
In my current position as Senior Manager of Nationwide Policy at the American Lung Association, I serve as lead author of the Something in the Air report series, aimed at closing air quality data gaps and elevating policy recommendations rooted in science and equity. I contribute to national regulatory discussions and manage research on health, environmental, and climate trends. These experiences have required a high level of independence, precision in analysis, and the ability to present findings across technical and non-technical audiences—all essential to this position.
Previously, I served as Director of Health Promotions for the American Lung Association in New York, where I managed a $400,000 state-funded program focused on tobacco control and public health infrastructure. This role involved supervising cross-sector policy interventions, synthesizing large datasets, facilitating community-based evaluations, and producing reports and proposals to support public education and legislative change.
My background includes managing large, grant-funded health policy programs and producing technical documents such as white papers, policy briefs, case studies, and visual data reports for both general and specialized audiences. I routinely collaborate with agencies such as the EPA, NASA, academic institutions, and NIH, as well as community-based organizations, to build robust frameworks for analysis and solutions-based engagement. These partnerships have allowed me to engage with diverse stakeholder groups—ranging from advocacy leaders and government officials to scientists and community members—through facilitated workshops, presentations, and joint initiatives.
I hold a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University with a concentration in environmental policy, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Development Sociology, graduating Cum Laude with Distinction in Research. I am experienced with evaluating policy solutions for feasibility and equity, leading multi-agency discussions, managing research projects from design to delivery, and presenting findings to congressional staff, regulatory agencies, and national coalitions. My academic and professional foundation is grounded in applied policy analysis, technical writing, and program evaluation—skills that I believe are deeply aligned with this role’s focus on research, policy design, and stakeholder engagement.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to your mission and support the advancement of sound, equity-centered public policy.
Sincerely,
Alexandra M. Popovici
